Downtime Interview w/ Moon Patrol

Artist workspace

1) Location?

Sonoma County, just north of San Francisco 🇺🇸

2) Years collaging?

I have been collaging for about 5 years.

3) What do you love and hate about collage?

I love being constantly surprised because I almost never know what I'll end up creating.

I hate being so often frustrated because I almost never know what I'll end up creating.

4) Biggest influences?

Rene Magritte, Max Ernst's Une Semaine De Bonte, '80s & '90s comic books, horror movies, Hieronymus Bosch, D&D monster manuals... too many influences. Everything.

5) Analog Vs Digital?

Digital.

6) How do you spend your downtime?

I have no downtime. If I do, I'm working on a collage.

7) Three tips for someone starting out in collage?

Experiment, experiment, experiment. Also, it's ok to copy others' styles in the beginning, as long as it's with the goal of informing your own evolving style. You should eventually have your own unique and recognizable style.

8) Up and coming shows or projects we should know about?

I have a book coming out this summer (hopefully!) The book release event was canceled because of this pandemic. But - fingers crossed - the book itself should still be released close to the original date. It was put together and is being sold by a gallery in Melbourne who really does it right!
