125 Years of Federation — Cumberland City Council × Sydney Collage Society

To mark the 125th anniversary of Australia’s Federation, Cumberland City Council commissioned a hero collage and heritage trail map as part of a wider program celebrating local history, culture, and community identity.

Created by Sydney-based collage artist Kubi Vasak, the project brings together place, people, and landscape through a layered visual system designed for public spaces — from teardrop flags and printed materials to digital platforms. Drawing on local landmarks, topographic forms, and Council’s colour palette, the works reflect Cumberland’s evolving story while remaining inclusive, accessible, and celebratory.

The result is a cohesive civic visual identity that honours heritage without nostalgia, and invites residents and visitors alike to explore Cumberland’s past and present through a local lens.
