The Dismissal: Words That Made History — Exhibition Collage & Projection
Sydney Collage Society artist Kubi Vasak created a suite of large-scale collage works for the Museum of Australian Democracy’s exhibition The Dismissal: Words That Made History, exploring one of Australia’s most pivotal political moments.
Using archival imagery, Vasak’s collages bring together key figures, crowds, architecture, and press imagery, reassembled to reflect the layered, collective experience of the 1975 Dismissal. The works were animated by Jay Dury of Trip Production, creating subtle motion that brings the compositions to life across projection, digital platforms, and public-facing contexts.
Rather than taking a partisan view, the collages focus on atmosphere, place, and public engagement — allowing visitors to reflect on the tension, urgency, and human impact of the events. Installed at Old Parliament House, the projections run continuously, complementing the exhibition and extending to online and promotional materials, creating a cohesive and immersive experience.
