Downtime Interview w/ Chris Burnett

1) LOCATION?

Los Angeles, CA 🇺🇸

2) YEARS COLLAGING?

10 Years going strong!

 3) WHAT DO YOU LOVE AND HATE ABOUT COLLAGE?

I love that I can create something instantaneously out of nothing, really. Taking different elements that don’t usually go together, and making them look tight when they do. And honestly, I don’t really hate anything about it!

 4) BIGGEST INFLUENCES?

I don’t have any specific collage artist influences, but I love love love David Salle. He’s a painter but his work is very collage-like.

 5) ANALOG VS DIGITAL?

Both! I don’t always have a glue stick and an X-acto nearby.

6) HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR DOWNTIME?

Either making music, skateboarding, playing poker, or finding random documentaries on YouTube to watch. It’s rare that I actually sit around doing nothing.

7) THREE TIPS FOR SOMEONE STARTING OUT IN COLLAGE?

#1 - There are no rules.

#2 - Don’t plan it out, just go.

#3 - Sometimes you’re not going to like what you make, and that’s ok.

8) UP AND COMING SHOWS OR PROJECTS WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT?

I’ve never participated in a gallery show as of yet…but sooner or later I will! At the moment I’ve been focusing on recording an EP for your listening pleasure.
