School Workshops
Inspiring Creativity Through Collage.
We offer engaging, hands-on collage workshops designed for primary and high school students across Sydney and Greater Sydney. Aligned with the NSW Visual Arts curriculum, our workshops explore composition, colour, balance, and storytelling, fostering creativity and critical thinking.
Making, Appreciating and Exhibiting.
For K–6 students, the NSW Creative Arts Syllabus focuses on four key areas: Dance, Drama, Music, and Visual Arts. Within Visual Arts, students engage in Making and Appreciating, meaning they create artworks and learn to discuss and understand art. "Exhibiting" is not an official strand in the syllabus but is often incorporated as part of classroom displays and discussions.
For Years 7–12, the NSW Visual Arts Syllabus continues to focus on Making and Critical/Historical Studies (Appreciating). As students progress, they are expected to develop more technical skills, engage with art history and theory, and critically analyse their own and others' work. High school students may also create Bodies of Work, particularly in senior years (Years 11–12), where they explore personal themes and conceptual thinking.
What we teach
Artistic Techniques
Making: Students engage in creating collages, exploring various styles such as Portrait, Landscape, Abstract, and Pop Art. This hands-on activity aligns with the 'Making' component of the Visual Arts curriculum, where students develop practical skills in art creation.
Materials and Tools: All necessary materials, including a diverse collection of books and magazines, are provided, allowing students to experiment with different textures and forms.
Creative Thinking and Decision Making
Composing and Designing: The process encourages students to select and arrange images thoughtfully, enhancing their decision-making skills and creative thinking. This practice supports the curriculum's emphasis on developing students' abilities to compose and perform in the arts.
Collage History and Visual Communication
Appreciating and Exhibiting: Our workshops include discussions on the history of collage and its evolution, helping students appreciate various art forms and their cultural significance. The concluding gallery-style display allows students to exhibit their work, fostering an understanding of visual communication and students are able to access their and their peers artworks in an open discussion with the SCS educator and their teacher.

Primary Education (K–6)
In the early years, the curriculum encourages exploration and self-expression through different art forms. Our workshops introduce students to collage techniques, allowing them to experiment with materials and develop fundamental artistic skills. Activities are designed to nurture imagination and creativity while building confidence in artistic decision-making.
Secondary Education (7–10)
As students progress, the curriculum places greater emphasis on art-making, conceptual thinking, and critical analysis. Our workshops for this age group incorporate more advanced collage methods, encouraging students to explore themes, artistic movements, and historical contexts. These sessions help refine technical skills and develop a deeper understanding of visual storytelling and composition.
Senior Secondary Education (11–12)
For senior students, the focus shifts towards personal artistic practice and theoretical engagement. Our advanced workshops support students in developing a cohesive body of work, encouraging experimentation, conceptual depth, and preparation for higher education or professional pathways in the arts.
