Freya Jobbins
Multi-disciplinary artist Freya Jobbins was born in South Africa and immigrated to Australia as a child. She now lives and works on Dharawal and Gundungurra Land (Wollondilly).
Working across collage, assemblage, installation and printmaking, Freya’s practice explores appropriation, re-contextualisation and the subversion of pre-existing objects and images. Through layered compositions and reimagined materials, she investigates identity, aesthetics, contemporary gynocentric narratives and the human experience, drawing from her own lived experiences.
After pursuing art as a second career, Freya now works from a secluded studio environment that provides the time, space and inspiration to develop her distinctive voice. Her work has been selected for major awards and exhibitions including the Burwood Art Prize, Hazelhurst Art on Paper Award, McClelland National Small Sculpture Award, Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize, Silk Cut Award, PARAMOR Prize and Fishers Ghost Art Award, where she won the Contemporary Category in 2010 and 2025.
Her selected exhibitions include In The Arms of Unconsciousness (Hazelhurst), Belonging (Ngununggula), Subverted Expectation (Wayout Artspace), Return (Wagga Wagga Art Gallery), Firewall (Goulburn Regional Gallery) and Kollektion (Penny Contemporary, Hobart). Freya has also exhibited internationally across America, London, Tel Aviv, the Netherlands and Germany.
Freya holds a Diploma of Fine Art from Campbelltown TAFE and a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Fine Art) from Federation University, Ballarat. She regularly presents workshops and artist talks, sharing her passion for collage and its place within contemporary art.
